We have a room packed full of books – a rich and colourful display of titles and topics you cannot help but be tempted to explore further. For details of where we are see CONTACT US and for details about joining the library see JOIN US.

Most of the books have be donated by individuals and combine to provide an exciting range that certainly includes the unusual as well as familiar favourites.

This page gives you an idea of the range of books we have which is continually being  added to. The page will change regularly to reflect this, and future pages will look in more detail at different themes and topics.

Fantastic Fiction

Be tempted by our fantastic range of fiction – an amazing A-Z of authors which includes Jo Brand, Dan Brown, Martina Cole, Stephen Fry, Susan Hill, Nick Hornby, Sophie Kinsella, Ian McEwan, Deborah Moggach, Terry Pratchett, Ian Rankin, Sidney Sheldon, and Zadie Smith.

Are historical novels more your thing? If you watched The White Queen on BBC you might like to read the novels by Philipa Gregory on which it was based.  Or if you saw any of the programmes in the series on the Tudor Court you might enjoy reading Hilary Mantel’s Booker Prize-winning novel Wolf Hall based on the life of Thomas Cronwell in the reign of Henry VIII.

The Collection includes Agatha Christie, John Grisham, Arthur Conan Doyle, David Baldacci, James Patterson, Ruth Rendell and so many more …


All ages are catered for with a collection for children where you can find out how Tilly Beany Saves the World, enjoy Helen Cooper’s Pumpkin Soup, follow the eventful journey in Julia Donaldson’s The Snail and the Whale, and meet Hippy the Happy Hippopotamus, courtesy of copies kindly donated by illustrator Jeanette Cole and author Chris Rhodes. Discover perennial favourites such as Peter Rabbit, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, and of course no collection is complete without a selection of Roald Dahl.

Catch up on a few classics that you haven’t read at all or you would like to revisit with authors such as Jane Austen, Joseph Conrad, George Eliot and J.R.R Tolkein.

Poetry is not forgotten – a small collection so far but with some big poetry from the likes of T. S. Eliot, Ted Hughes, Seamus Heaney, Sylvia Plath, and Alice Walker, collections from different eras and from East End Poets.

Help yourself with our growing self help collection  – books to help you cope with some of life’s difficulties and to improve mental health and wellbeing.

You can choose from a brilliant collection of biographies and autobiographies which includes celebrities past and present from music, television, film, sport and politics. And those written by not so well known people who are sharing often very difficult experiences through life stories.

There are loads of good books that would love to be read and enjoyed – we welcome you to Harrow Green Community Library.
