The Library commemorates local men who fought in WW1. Some of our volunteers are participating in one of the commemorative projects launched by Big Ideas to mark the centenary of the ending of the WW1.
‘Motherhood, Loss and the First World War’ considers the impact of uncertainty and bereavement as mothers saw their sons go in to the Forces, some dying in battle or suffering severe wounds – many at a very young age.
We have highlighted in a display the experiences of some local mothers and sons, along with books – historic accounts, memoirs, novels and poetry that link with WW1.
